KENSINGTON PALACE

With the opening of a new exhibition at Kensington Palace, Collaborate were commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces to create some additional graphic interventions within the existing Victoria Revealed route.

These included clearer introductions to each room and a more obvious interpretative narrative whilst retaining the integrity of such an historic environment.

The start of the route features silhouettes depicting the Privy Council members ascending the stairs to the room in which Queen Victoria held her first Privy Council meeting. We worked with the curatorial team to ensure that the figures were authentic down to the clothing they would have worn and each individual’s height and stature.

In all the rooms we have introduced interpretive fire screens which give visitors an introduction to each room. We also developed an extended display on Victoria and Albert’s work life which included a table showing fasimilie letters and drawings. These were signposted using glass paperweights depicting both Victoria and Albert to relate to their particular correspondence.
